Living in Paradise

Have you ever seen a rainbow — a huge, full-of-promise rainbow falling right into the ocean between two mist-enshrouded islands?

Have you ever seen a flock of two or three hundred birds dance in unison in the sky, alight upon the tops of several magnificent cedars, and then serenade you in harmonious splendor with their glorious song?

Ever piqued the curiosity of half-a-dozen seals, previously sunning on a rock 100 feet from shore, with the delighted squeals of your children playing on the beach?

Ever driven through a 2 km grove of trees just before the sun sets, when the end-of-day rays are streaming through the trees, illuminating every leaf and branch and speck in the air, and causing you to wonder if you had somehow, magically, entered into a fairly-land?

Have you ever gone for a walk with your spouse and kids and been enchanted by a babbling brook which you decided to follow, only to become trapped on all sides and above by a bramble of thorns so thick and sharp you wondered how you’d ever get out alive?

Ever needed a spider suit?!?

Have you ever? We have. Living here on Gabriola Island is a little like living on a piece of God’s paradise and the things I have described above are almost everyday happenings.
