WHY DO WE LIVE HERE ?

When new clients arrive to the island they are always curious why we choose to live here.  For me, it’s an easy one, of course there are endless answers, but the one that always stands out for me is the community and how great people are to each other.  This past week, I had a few examples that illustrated how good our Island is at connecting.  My daughter, Bianca, recently had her photo and a write up in the local paper (The Sounder) about a recent sporting event that her team did well at.    On Saturday she had her booth set up at the Gabriola Farmers Market, and a local vendor Gwen,that makes delicious pies, came up to her and gave her a homemade pie for her to celebrate how well she’d done and told her she could eat the whole thing  herself is she wanted.  If you’ve tried one of Gwen’s pies, you know that polishing one of on your own is definitely a huge treat, of course, we made her share.  Earlier this week, my mom was with Bianca, and one of the ferry crew had come up to their car and gave them candies to celebrate Bianca’s success.  It’s amazing for the community to connect with the teenagers and really make them feel supported.  Caring and connecting with each other makes a huge difference in our daily lives, and this happens regularly on our little island, which is one of the main reasons I love living here.
