PHC: Spirit Feast

25 December 2014

The December rain has arrived, and the days are short and dark, a bright spot is on the horizon: People for a Healthy Community’s Spirit Feast, held annually on December 25 at Camp Miriam.

The phones at PHC are ringing as people ask how they can participate. Volunteers are already offering to help peel potatoes, scrub carrots and hang decorations. The Gabriola Lions are donating wood for the fire, and turkeys raised by the Boulton family on Somerset Farm for the seasonal feast. Tasty vegetarian dishes will be on offer too – there is something for everyone!

A special bearded guest will arrive shortly after the doors open at 5pm, and live music will accompany this festive meal. Remember to save room for a sweet dessert provided by Robert’s Place!

We can always use extra hands in the kitchen for meal preparation or clean up afterwards. Volunteers, new and returning, are the secret ingredient to the ongoing success of the Spirit Feast. PHC Board Member and Spirit Feast Volunteer Kelly Ziebarth says “spending time in the dish pit has become a family tradition”.

This non-licensed event is open to all, bring your instrument and your appetite to this joyful community gathering. Gabriola’s own community bus GERTIE will be out and about to offer easy transportation down to Camp Miriam.
